Our Customer

The City of London is a ceremonial county, city, and a government district. They are also responsible for the maintenance of numerous meticulously groomed public gardens across London.

Their Challenges

The City of London relied on a paper-based system to keep track of all maintenance work done within their public gardens. This made keeping track of completed tasks difficult, with many tasks being repeated as a result and therefore wasting time. The paper-based system also made garden oversight and audits difficult for city administrators.

Our Solution

We built The City of London a pilot version of a customised Microsoft Power App solution that was backed by Power Automate and SharePoint Online. A select group of city gardeners were then chosen to demo the app for a few weeks and provided their feedback. Once we had gathered the feedback from the pilot version of the Power App, we began scaling the app so that it was able to support every employee’s needs.

Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans

The City of London now has over 100 employees using the app and reaping its benefits daily. Microsoft Intune being deployed meant that city-managed devices cannot be opened by unauthorised people and secures their sensitive data.

Reporting an issue through the app rather than using paper reports meant that the reporting time was reduced to 24 hours rather than their previous 7-day time frame. The progression of these issues is also now easy to track, with the app enabling them to check how the issue will be resolved, the progress that has been made and when it will be resolved.

As a result of the Power App solution, audits have also been made easier for garden overseers. Each garden currently has a 95% audit completion rate compared to the 70% completion rate before the app.
