Energy One is a global supplier of software products and services to wholesale energy, environmental and carbon trading markets.

Listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX:EOL) since 2007, but with more than 15 years of market experience, the Energy One Group of companies has a successful track record of providing sophisticated, practical solutions and services to Australasian and European companies operating in the fast-paced 24/7 wholesale energy marketplace.

Energy One’s suite of software products includes ETRM, process automation, automated bidding/nominations and algorithmic trading. In addition to software, Energy One provides services to operate their software and manage the operation of renewable assets on behalf of customers.

Energy One’s clients include energy retailers, generators, users, customers and traders ranging from start–ups to multi-national organisations. Its suite of products and services offer proven market solutions for European, UK and Asia-Pacific energy participants, enabling the management of their entire wholesale energy portfolio.

Their Challenges

The Energy One Group’s newly acquired business unit based in Paris had strict data sovereignty requirements, meaning their mailboxes could not be stored outside of the EU.

The Energy One Group were using a legacy Tenancy linked to one of the companies within the Group. This tenancy is based in the UK and handles the workload for the UK and Australian businesses. However, the EU based companies within the group have contracts which prevent some data being stored outside of the EU.

They also used a G-Suite subscription and were not on the main Energy One Group Office 365 Tenancy.

Our Solution

Valto consulted with Energy One to set up Multi-Geo in Office 365 and test out the Multi-Geo capabilities. We also set up a Microsoft 365 Exchange Migration to move their emails from their existing provider to Microsoft.

Valto also provided Microsoft 365 training for Energy One Group admins, which included the documentation of setup and recorded training sessions for them to refer back to.

Additionally, Valto provided a Microsoft 365 Security Hardening. This was to ensure that Conditional Access policies are in place, and data can only be accessed from trusted locations and devices. This also ensures that any potential threats are blocked.

Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans

Valto migrated all the business units’ mailbox data from G-Suite and their Teams data from a separate Office 365 tenancy to the main Energy One Office 365 Tenancy over a weekend.

As a result of Valto’s solution to migrate Energy One’s Tenancy from their previous provider to Microsoft, it allowed them to store data outside of the EU.

The Microsoft training that we provided also made sure that Energy One is getting the most out of their Microsoft 365 solution, and the sessions were recorded for them to refer back to, or show any new members of staff in the future.

Valto’s solution enabled better collaboration and efficiencies to be delivered. As a result of moving all business units onto an Office 365 Platform, it made sure that the same experience is delivered for all users across the Group and it also enables interactions between them.
