What is RPO and RTO in Azure Disaster Recovery?

Recovery Point Objective (RPO) in Azure Site Recovery refers to the maximum amount of data loss (measured in time) that can happen following a crash, failure or system disaster. Anything above the RPO will be considered an unacceptable level of data loss. The size of the typical RPO can differ across different Azure protocols – for example, Azure Virtual Machines (VMS) RPOs can sit at around one day, while smaller database and data set recovery RPOs can be a matter of minutes.

Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is how long the recovery takes to restore the data. A larger RPO will result in a higher RTO, simply owing to the sheer amount of data that needs to be managed.
