Video transcript
Hugh Valentine:
I’m Hugh Valentine, CEO of Valto. We’re working with Holstein UK on a full digital transformation project. We’re helping them migrate their legacy platform to modern technology built on Microsoft solutions.
Michael Halliwell:
My name is Michael Halliwell, and I’m Group Commercial Director at Holstein UK Group.
At Holstein UK, we’re undertaking a full digital transformation programme. A number of years ago, we recognised that our existing systems were struggling to meet the demands of today’s connected world, particularly around data integration, connectivity, and the seamless sharing of information.
We chose Valto as our transformation partner because, after evaluating several potential providers, we felt they truly understood our organisation and what we wanted to achieve. They were already speaking our language, which gave us confidence that they understood both our business and our goals
Sam Gareh:
I’m Sam Gareh, part of the Power Platform team at Valto.
We initially worked with Holstein UK through a five-day discovery engagement, taking a deep dive into both their data landscape and their legacy systems.
Following that, we entered a three-month solution architecture phase. During this time, we worked closely with key stakeholders to define a clear vision for what the transformation could look like and how it could be successfully delivered.
The primary driver behind this project is data. Data is central to Holstein UK’s business, and the wider industry is becoming increasingly data-driven. The organisation needs to be in a position where it can effectively structure, orchestrate and share that data.
Stacey Crichton:
My name is Stacey Crichton, and I am a Field Services Specialist at Holstein UK and CIS.
I’m working with the Valto team on our digital transformation project.
The driving force behind this programme is that many of our existing systems are no longer fit for purpose. We have undertaken this transformation to modernise our databases and improve both customer-facing and staff-facing systems and portals.
We are a data-driven organisation. We collect a significant amount of information on farms, covering both livestock and farm businesses. Access to better systems will help us use that data more effectively to support farmers and their businesses.
Artificial intelligence also has an important role to play. By improving our technology and processes, we will be in a much stronger position to take advantage of AI tools and capabilities in the future.
Dave Buckley:
I’m Dave Buckley, Digital Transformation Lead and Solution Architect.
We’re using the full Microsoft technology stack, with Power Platform at the centre of the solution. The portal is being built using Power Pages, alongside progressive web application technology that will enable offline working and support native mobile experiences.
We’ve completed the solution architecture phase and are now in the second iteration of the design phase. We continue to run regular workshops to refine requirements and develop proof-of-concept solutions throughout the programme.
Michael Halliwell:
The programme has been a really valuable exercise.
We’ve taken the opportunity to examine every aspect of our business processes, understanding what we do, why we do it, and whether those activities are still necessary. Where they are necessary, we’re asking whether there are more efficient ways of working.
Stacey Crichton:
I’ve found the project extremely beneficial.
It’s remarkable how much knowledge exists across the business. Breaking everything down and rebuilding it piece by piece has been incredibly informative for every part of the organisation, including NBDC, CIS and Holstein UK itself.
The project has been an excellent fact-finding exercise, helping us understand how different systems operate and how we can bring them together to work more effectively across departments.
Michael Halliwell:
In my opinion, we’re living in the age of data and artificial intelligence.
Many organisations are only beginning to understand the opportunities these technologies can create. As businesses see competitors successfully adopting new approaches, they’ll increasingly recognise the need to modernise their own operations.
My advice would be to take an honest look at your organisation and ask whether your systems are truly fit for the modern era. If they aren’t, then it’s worth speaking to Valto.
