Microsoft AI was a huge topic at this year’s Microsoft Ignite 2025 conference.
We have just seen massive announcements about how Microsoft AI will be transforming workforces around the world. In this blog article we will give you all of the information you will need to know about Microsoft AI going into 2026.
From smarter employee insights to a collection of new AI agents across sales, HR, marketing, and IT, these announcements signal a shift toward deeply integrated, context-aware Microsoft AI woven directly into everyday work.
Below is your digestible guide to the most important updates, what they are, how they’ll be used, and when you can expect to get your hands on them.
Work IQ is now the intelligence layer powering Microsoft 365 Copilot and the new generation of AI agents.
It absorbs context from conversations, recognises intent over time, and reasons across employee data for sharper, more relevant and tailored responses.
Think of Work IQ less of an app or AI Agent but instead a data layer that all of the Copilot and other Microsoft AI products will leverage.
This upgraded memory system allows Copilot to remember details across sessions. Users will be able to review or erase these memories through maintaining full control. This is a very similar functionality to ChatGPT.

It will enable smarter knowledge retrieval. We are expecting it to start giving more tailored answers to employees based on their previous use of Microsoft AI products such as Copilot for Microsoft 365.
For example Ask Copilot for “the latest vehicle specs for next quarter’s launch” and it pulls structured metadata, images, and internal documents without you wading through folders.
Microsoft Work IQ enables context-aware conversations
If you’ve asked Copilot about an ongoing proposal, it will remember the next day. So you can simply say, “Continue the draft,” and it picks up instantly.
How Work IQ enables secure reasoning over sensitive files
Even encrypted content can be analysed safely, allowing teams to extract insight without exposing data unnecessarily.
Work IQ enables secure reasoning by allowing AI to analyse and draw insights from sensitive or encrypted files without exposing the underlying data to users that should not be accessing it.
Enhanced Work IQ capabilities and SharePoint metadata reasoning are generally available now, with conversational memory controls rolling out through the Frontier program early 2026.

Microsoft’s expanding AI agent ecosystem received one of its biggest updates yet. It is a collection of AI agents designed to handle daily workflows with human-level nuance.
The first Microsoft AI Agent that was announced was the Sales Development Agent. This will transform the way your sales department is currently operating.
A fully autonomous sales development representative engineered to scout and study prospects in rich detail.
Treating it like another member of the team it will assemble finely tuned and personalised outreach messages, and activate timely, intelligent follow-ups throughout every hour of the day and night.
We expect this agent to support your existing sales team with automated outbound research.
The agent identifies relevant prospects, summarises company updates, and drafts tailored first-touch messages.
The Sales Development Agent from Microsoft will also ensure a persistent follow up and nothing is forgotten. No more dropped leads as it contacts prospects on a defined schedule, even on weekends or out of hours if you required.
The Sales AI will essentially will transition your sales team into an AI hybrid workforce. Sales teams can jump in at any point and refine messages or override decisions that the AI has made. Rather than replace staff it is allowing your existing sales team to achieve more.

It is now accessible to organisations in the Frontier program. However, we are expecting other organisations to start getting their hands on this in March of 2026.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is bringing OpenAI’s Sora 2 model into the Create environment, enabling users to generate short, high-quality videos from text prompts.
Sora 2 functionality is available now for commercial Frontier program customers. We expect to see this come through to other users in March of 2026.
This will allow employees of your Marketing department using Microsoft 365 Copilot to achieve the following:
Type “Create a 10-second product intro with a rotating 3D render” and Sora 2 assembles it.
Brand kits, music controls, and voiceover tools keep videos consistent with marketing guidelines.
Instead of hunting through libraries, users instantly generate visuals tailored to their message.
Microsoft have announced 3 AI agents that are going to be a game changer for your HR departments.
These AI agents are going to be leveraging real world data collected from around your business to gain intelligent insights into your business.

A real-time data analysis agent offering visibility into workforce trends across teams, locations, and roles.
The Workforce Insights agent is going to help your business spot skills shortages before they become a problem.
It will be tracking productivity and reporting back to you patterns that it has found in order for you to make informed decisions regarding your workforce.
This agent will be vital component of organisational planning and support you at every step of the way.
This agent is available now through the Frontier program. However, we expect that everyone else will get their hands on this in March 2026.
A talent-discovery and connection tool that surfaces colleagues by skill, role, or past collaboration.
This will be a game changing Microsoft AI feature that will help you find resources internally with the right experience to support a project or just answer questions. Without having to go externally.
The Microsoft People Agent will allow you to build multidisciplinary project teams quickly without having to do a lot of manual digging and speaking with colleagues.
Perhaps you have got stuck on a project and need to quickly identify some internal experts to quickly help with urgent tasks or questions. The People agent will quickly surface these employees. This will also help reduce costs of having to use external contractors or suppliers to bridge knowledge gaps that you can likely fill already.
Another way we predict that the People Agent from Microsoft will be used is to support employee onboarding. Often when new starters are joining a business they have a lot of questions and need to reach out to someone. The People Agent from Microsoft will allow them to quickly find the right colleague to speak to.
The People Agent from Microsoft is already available today for Frontier program organisations. We expect that everyone else will get there hands on this in March 2026.
The learning agent is described as a personalised microlearning engine delivering curated courses and upskilling journeys.
A running theme of all the Microsoft AI announcements from the Microsoft Ignite 2025 conference is that AI is becoming more personalised.
This is likely going to be most important within the Learning Agent to tailor training pathways to the individual employee based on their previous experience and skills.
Amongst other topics we expect the Learning Agent to offer AI-readiness training paths and deliver bite sized internal professional development.
Overall this will be a game changer in supporting the compliance learning cycles and ensuring that every employee gets a bespoke feel to their learning journey.
Rolling out now via the Frontier program. We expect to see the Learning Agent available to everyone else in March 2026.
There have been a lot of Microsoft AI announcements that will mean IT administrators are getting a major upgrade.
A Microsoft 365 E5 subscription has always equipped a business with end-to-end security, spanning threat defence, identity and access controls, device management and data protection.
It has now been announced that the E5 license will now include what was previous a very expensive license for the Microsoft Security Copilot.
Security Copilot elevates this foundation by introducing built-in AI agents that strengthen every layer of the security ecosystem. These adaptive agents work alongside your security teams, accelerating investigations and providing smooth repetitive work whilst helping them reach quicker decisions that keep the organisation far safer.
The SharePoint Admin Agent is a Microsoft AI agent that automates SharePoint cleanup, governance, and oversight.
It will be a game changer for SharePoint owners to allow them to manage their SharePoint site in a fraction of the time.

The SharePoint Admin Agent is going to allow you to automatically identify inactive or even ownerless SharePoint sites much quicker. Currently this requires a lot of manual effort through the SharePoint admin centre. This Microsoft AI will be a crucial part of controlling overshared files from within SharePoint and being able to identify permissions sprawl. Governing permissions within SharePoint is should be vital component of your Microsoft AI strategy. As SharePoint underpins a huge part of what Copilot for Microsoft 365 will be surfacing to your employees. If you have SharePoint permissions sprawl then you might end up with documents falling into the wrong hands. The SharePoint Admin agent will be able to support the implementation of archiving policies to ensure that your documents stay up to date. This is also a critical part of your Microsoft AI strategy as chatbots such as Microsoft 365 Copilot are only as good as the data that they have access to. If it is looking at outdated documents it will be surfacing out of date information to your employees. We expect that the SharePoint admin agent will be used to monitor high activity sites that will help you understand adoption rates of Copilot as it is rolled out to the wider business.
The SharePoint Admin Agent is now in preview and we expect it to be in general release by March of 2026.
A huge announcement from major shift: Copilot Chat enters preview in March 2026, bringing advanced AI functionality into Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and NO Microsoft 365 Copilot licence required.
This will allow your employees to use Copilot within all of the office applications that you use on a daily basis including:
Preview arrives March 2026.
