The Spencer West Revenue Portal is a model-driven app solution designed to enhance the firm’s revenue management processes. This case study explores the development, implementation, and impact of the Revenue Portal, highlighting its technical and business benefits.

Spencer West's challenges

Before the implementation of the Revenue Portal, Spencer West faced several significant challenges in managing revenue: Complex Revenue Sharing: Multiple parties including, Local firms and Spencer West both took a percentage of the revenue for a legal case, requiring precise tracking to ensure accurate distribution of fees. Internal Invoicing System: Lawyers received a percentage of earnings from onboarding other lawyers, necessitating an internal invoicing system to manage these transactions. Fee Recording: Spencer West needed a reliable way for lawyers to record their fees accurately and have their bespoke agreements automatically calculated. System Transition: Spencer West was transitioning from a case management system called Inside Legal to a new product called Action Step, adding complexity to data integration.

The Solution

Onboarding lawyers: Spencer west administrative team can onboard a new law firm via a Model Driven app to create bespoke financial agreements. It also includes an embedded Canvas Power App that allowed for a customised user interface.

Fee submission: Once a new law firm or lawyer was onboarded, they would be eligible to submit their client transactions via a third-party application known as Actionstep. This was the triggering action that would start the business process in motion.

Data transformation: Using an Azure solution that automatically took the required data from Actionstep SQL Server not collected but transformed the data submitted into Actionstep ready to be transferred into Microsoft Dataverse via a data flow.

Invoice processing: Now the data is safely secured in Dataverse, our solution would then cross reference the bespoke financial agreements entered the model driven app and stored within Dataverse during the onboarding stage of the process. This allows our solution to accurately calculate the relevant fees and subsequent invoices to the relevant parties to be transacted by the finance team.

Fees reporting: The onboarded law firms can access a Canvas App via the Spencer West intranet Valto built within SharePoint Online to generate financial reports that can easily be exported or printed.

Transaction analysis: Valto also developed a series of Power Bi reports for this solution, allowing Spencer West to drill into the financial analysis to determine the performance of the newly onboarded law firm all via the Model Driven app.
